BAT masonry support for one of the tallest brick clad buildings in London

Expamet Construction were presented an opportunity to provide design, manufacture and supply of BAT masonry support by Swift Brickwork Contractors Ltd in June 2009 for one of the tallest brick clad buildings in London.

Grange are currently London’s leading independent luxury hotel group and Grange Tower Hotel in Prescott St, East London was the first project Swift had secured with this client. Therefore it was of paramount importance to the contractor that design, manufacture and delivery of systems was to the highest level of quality, accuracy and value.

The project consisted of two high rise tower blocks and a central core block. Design work commenced on the 2nd floor of the Western Tower, in line with the site programme and close liaison with Swift personnel.

An on-line portal allowed access to architect’s, engineer’s and subcontractor’s drawings which showed the position of the cast in channels, the window details and setting out.

Expamet Construction identified that in some instances the cast in channel was positioned too low to allow a cost effective design to be incorporated. Discussions with Swift regarding the best way forward resulted in Expamet Construction proposing that the cast in channel was to be abandoned and that post fixing on site was the most feasible approach.

Window details also provided design issues, special designs were introduced to accommodate the co-ordination of the masonry support, window fixings and the window frame.
