Our Response to COVID-19

With the unprecedented situation regarding Coronavirus we would like to update you on our current position and the steps taken to mitigate risk to our supply chain and our ability to service our customers.

Birtley Group does have some direct suppliers in both China and Italy for door slabs and some door components. We have closely monitored the manufacturing facilities and the port/border delays alongside our general procurement strategies, and are pleased to confirm that we have at this point seen no concern in our ability to supply.

As a further safeguarding measure we have reached out to all existing suppliers to provide detail of any risk in their ability to supply, we are monitoring all responses with again no current cause for concern raised.

With regards to Lintels and Expamet our robust steel procurement strategy is showing no risk in our ability to manufacture and service customer’s needs.

We have also taken measures to protect our staff by limiting the number of personnel at our premises, implementing an alternative shift pattern that limits the number of staff on-site at any one point.  Also, where possible, employees are working from home to ensure that our service levels remain consistent.

Our sales team, if appropriate, are looking to decrease the number of face to face meetings in favour of phone calls or online meetings. If there is a need for a face to face meeting on a business critical matter we ask that both parties adhere to the Government advice with regards to reducing the risk of spreading the virus.

We accept some levels of uncertainty in the market, however, we currently have both high levels of raw materials and finished goods and would ask that you maintain your usual buying trends with us to allow consistent management throughout our supply chain.

As a closing statement, we would like to wish you and your families well and would be grateful if you could inform us of any confirmed cases of Coronavirus within your business where the individual may have been associated with any of our business sites, offices or personnel.

Birtley began life as Birtley Building Products in 1965, based at the current site in County Durham. Originally a steel fabricator for the area’s mining and power generation industries, the company made its first steel lintels in 1967. Birtley Galvanizing boasts one of the most impressive galvanizing plants in Europe. The plant achieves the finest quality hot-dip galvanized zinc protective coatings to BS EN ISO 1461. Using state-of-the-art technology the plant processes steel products using a computer controlled, automated handling system, enabling Birtley Galvanizing to provide full project solutions to many industries.
